Today I am daydreaming. I want to go to the beach. But alas, household chores beckon. However, just because I cannot make it to the beach this weekend does not mean I can’t share one of my favorite Florida beaches with all you Florida Lifers out there.

Jetty Park is located in Port Canaveral, Florida right in the realm of Cocoa Beach. It is not the most glamourous of Florida beaches, but it certainly offers something for everyone. It is well known among the RV and camping crowd because of its well kept camping sites and fishing folk claim to enjoy much success while fishing off the pier that juts into the ocean at the end of the stone jetty.

The reason Jetty Park is my favorite beach in the Cocoa Beach area is its infrastructure. A well looked-after parking lot, a large, white building that offers a snack bar, restroom, and changing facilities, and a beachside playground. Now, this wonderful infrastructure comes as a price. Nothing major, $5 per car for Brevard County residents, and $10 per car for the rest of the world.
The second reason for my love of Jetty Park is the cruise ships. The drive to Jetty Park is not necessarily the most scenic, especially when taking Toll Road 528 to Port Canaveral and driving through the port area. However, once you are on George King Blvd and Jetty Park Drive you can hear the waves and feel the salt in the air. The beach neighbors the Ron Jon Resort and is right next to the Port Canaveral cruise ship port. I have sailed aboard cruise ships many times, and even spent a year sailing aboard the Disney cruise ships once a month. It always brought a smile to my face to see the folks ashore waving ‘bon voyage’ to the ships.

After a wonderful day on the beach it is the perfect way to end your day by standing along the left shoreline of Jetty Park waving and watching as the massive ships from Carnival, Disney, Royal Caribbean and others embark on their journey. For visitors and Florida residents, Jetty Park is a fantastic way to spend a beach day.
