It came out of nowhere, like a perfectly planned booby trap inside a dangerous ancient temple. Walt Disney World announced the opening of an Indiana Jones themed bar coming to Disney Springs (aka Downtown Disney). Immediately I was jubilant, especially when I read that there would be themed special effects reminiscent of my beloved Adventurers Club and the new Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto (turns out this is a rumor not official). But if you stick around theme park social media long enough you’ll encounter those that oppose any idea.
Listen, I get it. There’s an upside and a downside to everything. But stop and step back for a second. We’re talking about an Indiana Jones themed bar coming to Walt Disney World! Come on!!! That’s freaking cool!!!
Do I wish Pleasure Island was still around? More than I can possibly express.
Do I worry that themed bars with special effects will become overused? It’s a possibility, but it’s a concept I enjoy, and for now I have to have faith that Disney will not saturate it and will continue to make such concepts unique, destination experiences. And in the official announcement there was no mention of any special effects, so the worry worts may be in the clear and can continue to enjoy Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto as the only bar with special effects at WDW.
This is also one of those rare cases in which Walt Disney World gets something cool before Disneyland does, so can we at least enjoy that for a few moments?
My main thought on this news, however, is when the heck are we going to see some announcements about Star Wars attractions and such at Walt Disney World? I mean, if we can have an Indiana Jones themed bar then surely we can have a Mos Eisley Cantina, am I right?!
I’m excited about Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar and I hope you are too!
