Being in the Orlando area is exciting. There is always something to do. Life in the city, be it Orlando, Tampa, Miami, Jacksonville, Ft. Lauderdale or any other metropolitan area can be exhausting. With so many beautiful beaches, small towns, and relaxing rural areas throughout Florida, there’s a must-do weekend you’ve got to do if you live in a Florida city.
You’ve got to get away!
If you let it, life in the city, constantly on the go, always doing something, never slowing down, it can wear you down. As a blogger and someone who tries to suck the marrow out of life, out of each day really, I know I’ve got to take a moment to take it all in.
I am blessed with the fortune of my parents living on a lovely coastal island. Cedar Key, FL is about a two and a half hour drive from Central Florida. For me, getting there is half the fun. I purposefully take the back roads when time allows so that I can slow my pace of life, listen to the radio and watch rural Florida, real Florida pass by the windows of Blue Jean Baby.

That’s one of the many things I love about Florida. Road trips are fantastic! Whether you’re headed to the beach, headed out to country, or exploring a historic destination, you can almost always find a scenic way to get there. Enjoying the journey itself will help you enjoy the destination all the more.
So now that Spring Break has arrived for much of Florida, and as the rest of country has their Spring Break throughout the rest of the next month, make plans to get away for a more relaxing weekend. Find a destination away from the chaos and traffic of the city and slow down, if only for the a few days. Get away from the perfectly manicured landscapes, flower beds, concrete everything of the metropolitan area. Embrace the wild, untamed beauty of small town Florida.
To help get you started, hop on over to one of the big Florida websites I admire, Florida Backroads.
Thanks for the website tip–looks like a good one! And it’s so cool that your folks live in Cedar Key. My wife and I honeymooned at The Island Hotel, so it will always be a special place for us to go “Incommunicado.” Cheers!
Indeed! What a relaxing place for a honeymoon
Yes, a lovely place to spend a weekend !
